Atlanta Journal Constitution: Kemp taps first Black chairman of Stone Mountain Memorial Association
The Stone Mountain Action Coalition is encouraged to learn that the Reverend Abraham Mosley has been sworn in as the next chairperson of the Stone Mountain Memorial Association (SMMA) Board of Directors. Reverend Mosley will be the first African American appointed to lead the SMMA since the State of Georgia took over the development of a memorial to the Confederacy at Stone Mountain Park in 1958. The SMMA, according to its website, remains tasked with “the proper development, management, preservation, and protection of Stone Mountain as a Confederate Memorial and public recreation area.” It is our hope that the appointment of Reverend Mosley to this position of leadership is the first of many changes at this public park that will result in the immediate and complete removal of symbols, monuments, flags, street, place and building names, events and activities that honor and celebrate the Confederacy and the Ku Klux Klan. The Stone Mountain Action Coalition looks forward to continuing to work with Reverend Mosley and the other members of the SMMA Board to effect these necessary changes.
