CALL TO ACTION:
NO Taxpayer Bailout of the World's Largest Confederate Memorial!

State-sponsored racism is on full display in Georgia with the modern Jim Crow voter suppression bill just signed into law by Governor Kemp (with six white men by his side and a slave plantation painting behind him). It continues with the State’s attempt to bail out and continue funding Stone Mountain Park - the world’s largest Confederate monument and shrine to white supremacy - using Georgia taxpayer dollars.

In December, the Stone Mountain Action Coalition (SMAC) sent out a call to action to help stop the Stone Mountain Memorial Association (SMMA) from using additional public funding to maintain the largest Confederate memorial and shrine to white supremacy in the world (press release).

SMAC has just confirmed that after this call to action was released the SMMA removed its claim that the Park is “self-supporting and receives no tax dollars” from its website (12/10/20 screenshot). The Park is projecting a loss of nearly $5 million dollars this year and the taxpayers of Georgia will not bail them out!

  • Sample message/script: I am contacting you to demand that no public taxpayer money shall be used to support Stone Mountain Park. I am aware that the Stone Mountain Memorial Association recently removed its claim from their website that the Park is "self-supporting and receives no tax dollars” and am very concerned that the SMMA has repeatedly received and continues to use public funds and purposely mislead the public. Given your removal of this claim, I demand that all public funding be disclosed to ensure transparency and accountability with the taxpayers of Georgia. The public will not support or bail out the largest Confederate memorial in the world and shrine to white supremacy until the Park takes action to address its hateful symbols.
